How to kick off your academic career in Sweden: Workshop with Docent Tina Persson

Sweden has many universities representing different fields of interest and various academic positions. If your long-term goal is to start an academic career at one of the universities, it’s relevant to learn more about the Swedish academic system, and how you can best optimize your chances for climbing the professional ladder in academia.

Commonly, open positions are advertised on university webpages, and in some cases, also in journals like Nature, Science, and even websites like ResearchGate.

Before planning your application process, a vital step is networking with professionals at institutions or departments where you are interested in working.

In this workshop, you will learn how to start the groundwork of an academic application, and how to effectively support the application process. You will also learn some dos and don’ts in building relationships with professionals at universities.

The workshop is interactive, and a laptop is needed.

Key takeaways:

  • Academic titles explained
  • Best pathways to an academic career in Sweden
  • Networking in academia
  • How to get help with an application
  • Why do you need a support system
